Skier Kryukov said that domestic tournaments improve the level of sports in the country
Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Nikita Kryukov spoke about the benefits of domestic Russian competitions. His words are quoted by Match TV.
“Now we are able to replace international competitions with our own, domestic tournaments, and the level of our sport in the country has begun to grow,” he said. Kryukov noted that the Russian Cup in cross-country skiing has become valued, where ordinary fans can come and see the entire team.
Earlier, the senior coach of the Russian cross-country skiing team, Yuri Borodavko, shared a similar opinion. According to him, in conditions of international isolation, interest in skiing has increased not only among spectators, but also among sponsors.
On October 25, 2023, the Council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) extended sanctions against Russian athletes. For the first time, restrictions on the performance of Russians at international ski tournaments were imposed in March 2022.
