UEFA Secretary General Theodoridis said that the admission of Russian youths is dangerous for the union
The General Secretary of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Theodore Theodoridis, spoke about why it was impossible for Russian youth teams to be allowed to compete under the auspices of the organization. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, this issue was discussed with other teams. “When we realized that this was impossible and unfeasible, we immediately stopped all conversations. We are not crazy to put the entire association in a dangerous position,” explained Theodoridis.
On September 26, 2023, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to participate in international tournaments in a neutral status.
After this, a number of countries, including Ukraine, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams. On October 10, it became known that the decision of the UEFA executive committee on the admission of Russians had been canceled.
