One gasped, the other shook his head. The words of the third froze. Had it not been for Stoch, it would have been a disgrace

1992 year. Not classified in the World Cup competition in Engelberg on January 19. Even in the first seasons, or when Wojciech Skupień was the only one in “30”, Polish jumpers in Switzerland scored points. And on Saturday, there was a fear for a moment whether it would be otherwise.

Only Stoch did not disappoint. If it weren’t for him, it would have been the worst in 29 years. The Poles were left with frustration

Fortunately, he did not disappoint. He jumped 133.5 meters, he was seventh after the first round and Polish fans were sure that it would not be too bad in 29 years. And in the second round, Stoch even rose to sixth place when he scored the same as he had in the first round. This is his third best result this season. After the competition, he could have had a smile. For others, frustration was the leitmotif.

After the jump on 121.5 meters, there was a curve in u, who finished 7.3 points after the “30” in 35th place. 44. Jakub Wolny (118 meters) just sighed and rolled his eyes. (111 meters), who was the penultimate jumper in Engelberg classified on Saturday, shook his head sadly after crossing the gate separating the runway and the space from which the jumpers go to the changing rooms. And still they worry the most, and even drown and finish off the words of the only competitor who dropped out of the competition after the first round, who decided to talk to the Eurosport journalist, Kacper Merek.

Wąsek: There are new bugs. I don’t really know what’s going on

– I think there are new mistakes – said 45th in the competition (116 meters). – I do not know what it is about, but neither in the trial series nor in the first competition jump I was able to get to the threshold well. And to be honest, when I started pushing on the threshold, I already knew that something was wrong and it was hard for something to fly away – he analyzed. These are the words that probably chilled those who listened to them. They only added sadness and regret because it shows that it is bad, but it gets even worse.

– The push was going forward, not up. Tomorrow we’ll see if there is something to be done about it. Everything is possible. We will see if we can find the reason why it starts to happen and what it will all look like – said Wąsek.

Will there be more difficult decisions? Does it make sense to expose six Poles to TCS?

And Sunday is actually a chance for a better tomorrow for Polish jumpers, although there is no point in believing that something will change here overnight. The errors are too obvious, there are many shortcomings even to the representatives of weaker cadres, and the answers, if there weren’t, aren’t. The first attempts to solve the problems – training in Ramsau – for some players did not bring results.

Time for more, perhaps more difficult decisions. Maybe it is worth considering what will be the sense of the rivalry of six Poles, since there is no indication that the results of the rivalry in Germany and Austria will be optimistic for them?

The Sunday competition in Engelberg is scheduled for 16:00. The qualifying session will start at 2:45 pm. Live coverage on Sport.pl and in the Sport.pl LIVE mobile application.
