Grigory Rodchenkov called for a permanent ban on the Russian flag and anthem at the Olympic Games
The former head of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) whistleblower Grigory Rodchenkov called for tough sanctions against Russian athletes. His words are quoted by CNN.
“The Russian flag and anthem should be banned from the Olympic Games forever. If the IOC wants to have at least some authority, they will disqualify Russian athletes for 10 years, no less,” added Rodchenkov.
Rodchenkov fled to the United States in 2015 and became a WADA informant. Rodchenkov’s testimony served as the basis for Richard McLaren’s report, which spoke about the existence of a state system of doping support in Russia.
As a result of the investigation, a number of Russian athletes faced disqualification, cancellation of results and deprivation of awards. The Russian national team was banned from performing at the Olympics with its flag and anthem.
