In Russia they spoke about the inconclusive decision on participation in the 2024 Olympics

Deputy Svishchev called the decision on the participation of Russians in the Olympic Games 2024 inconclusive

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Svishchev announced an inconclusive decision on the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games (OG). This is how, in a conversation with Lenta.ru, he reacted to the words of the head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Vitold Banka, about the small number of neutral athletes at the Olympics.

“[По этому поводу] there is a clear opinion of the leadership of our country. In addition, we are waiting for consultations between the Ministry of Sports, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and our athletes, who are now thinking whether they should participate in the Olympic Games, and if so, then in whom,” said Svishchev.

The deputy noted that Russian athletes will not agree to participate in the Olympic Games under conditions that are derogatory for them.

“We heard about a million checks, a million obligations, certificates and what not they can come up with. “Our colleagues have semi-delusional thoughts that our sports leaders should evaluate and draw conclusions that will influence the decision – to participate or not to participate in the Olympic Games,” he added.

I still don’t understand what WADA has to do with it and how they know how many of our Olympians are planned to participate. This is definitely not WADA’s business. And WADA’s job is to monitor the purity of sport. Therefore, the statement of the head of WADA is somewhat surprising to me

Earlier, the head of WADA, Witold Banka, said that the group of neutral athletes at the Olympic Games in Paris will be very small, if at all. He added that Russian athletes are boycotting the conditions proposed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a careful analysis of the conditions put forward by the IOC. He noted that if these are politically motivated artificial demands aimed at cutting off Russian leaders, then the Ministry of Sports and the ROC must make an informed decision.

In December, it became known that six Russians and five Belarusians qualified as individual neutral athletes for the 2024 Olympics. The names of the athletes were not announced.
