The opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in Mexico City
The organizers of the 2026 FIFA World Cup have announced the venue for the opening match of the tournament. TASS reports this.
The Mexican national team will take part in the meeting. Her opponent will be determined later. The match will take place at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, which seats 87,523 spectators.
In February 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team has lost the opportunity to fight for access to the finals of the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada. Each of the named cities already has stadiums that meet FIFA requirements, so infrastructure costs are not included in the application. It is noted that the organizers of the tournament plan to earn $11 billion from its holding.
