Shubenkov spoke about Valieva’s disqualification

Shubenkov said that Valieva’s side in the case had to do everything wisely

World champion in hurdles Sergei Shubenkov spoke about the four-year disqualification of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted by TASS.

According to the athlete, it is always difficult for athletes in situations where they are accused of doping. “Success in this matter is very much not guaranteed, and my case, when I was not punished, is rather an exception. And success is impossible without an experienced lawyer, whose services are very expensive,” Shubenkov said.

He emphasized that he does not know the details of Valieva’s case. “But Camila’s side had to do everything wisely, especially since, I think, she had more resources than me,” the athlete added.

On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. Then traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in her sample.

In June 2021, Shubenkov was acquitted of a possible violation of anti-doping rules. The investigation revealed that the positive doping test was the result of the athlete unintentionally ingesting leftover medication used to treat a family member.
