Supervisory board member Birling left Twente due to Ugalde’s move to Spartak
John Birling resigned from the supervisory board of Twente due to the transfer of striker Manfred Ugalde to Spartak Moscow. This was reported on the website of the Dutch club.
It is noted that Birling is also a member of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of the Netherlands. In his opinion, the sale of the football player to Spartak is incompatible with the principles of the NOC and with his own principles.
The transaction between Twente and Spartak became known on January 29. The red and whites signed a contract with the 21-year-old Costa Rican international for four and a half years.
Ugalde moved to Twente in 2021. In total, he played 87 matches with the team, in which he scored 22 goals and gave 13 assists. The Transfermarkt portal estimates his value at five million euros.
