The NHL announced a Four Nations tournament for teams without Russia
The National Hockey League (NHL) will hold a new competition for national teams, which will be called the Four Nations Tournament. This is reported on the organization’s website.
It will feature Canada, the USA, Sweden and Finland. The participation of Russia and other teams is not provided. The competition will take place in February 2025. Teams will play three games over nine days using the traditional round-robin system. The two best teams will advance to the final, which consists of one game.
Previously, the NHL announced the participation of its hockey players in the 2026 and 2030 Olympic Games. The last time league representatives competed at the Games was in 2014 in Sochi.
Last November, the director of the National Hockey League Players’ Union (NHLPA), Marty Walsh, said that the Russians would not take part in the 2025 World Cup. The reason was that many federations do not allow their players to participate in the tournament with the Russians.
