Times: Valieva learned of a positive doping test during a team tournament
Details have become known about the positive doping test of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. They are reported by TASS with reference to The Times.
According to the source, Valieva learned that her sample gave a positive result on February 6, 2022, that is, during the team tournament. On the same day she performed a short program.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. According to the court, Valieva could not prove that she took doping unintentionally.
The athlete was deprived of gold for winning the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing as part of the Russian team. In addition, she was left without the title of champion of Russia and Europe.
The doping scandal surrounding Valieva unfolded at the 2022 Olympic Games. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
