Tarasova: if she were Tutberidze, she would take the blame for the doping scandal with Valieva
Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova gave advice to Honored Coach of Russia in figure skating Eteri Tutberidze due to the situation with the disqualification of figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her words are quoted by Match TV.
Tarasova said that she would take the blame for the doping scandal. “I would say that I was at fault, that I was confused, that I gave the wrong thing, but I would remove the responsibility for this from the child,” she considered, adding that this seems to be the only correct decision.
Earlier on January 31, Tutberidze reproached the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for not establishing exactly how the prohibited substance entered Valieva’s body. In addition, Tutberidze expressed doubts that someone defended Valieva at the CAS hearings, and called the court’s verdict the worst.
On January 29, CAS suspended Valieva for four years for using the banned drug trimetazidine. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. The athlete, along with her partners on the Russian national team, will be deprived of gold for winning the team tournament at the 2022 Olympics.
