Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov was unable to qualify in the individual freestyle sprint at the fourth stage of the World Cup in cross-country skiing in Dresden, Germany. The results are available on the website of the International Ski Federation (FIS).
The athlete failed the race, finishing in 31st place. Thus, he will not be able to participate in the sprint quarterfinals. Russia at this stage of the competition will be represented by Alexander Terentyev and Gleb Retivykh, who are in eighth and ninth places in the qualification.
On December 13, the head of the Russian Cross-Country Skiing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe called Bolshunov’s rash act, who went to the start of the World Cup race with a cold. She noted that often an athlete acts rashly because of his youth and a great desire to compete.
Bolshunov is the 2021 Skiathlon World Champion and four-time Olympic medalist in 2018. Also, the Russian has two victories in the overall standings of the World Cup in the seasons 2019/2020 and 2020/2021.
