Canadian Figure Skating Federation will appeal the result of the 2022 Olympics team tournament
Figure Skating Canada is appealing the result of the team tournament at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. This is reported on the organization’s website.
Canada considered that, according to the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), all results achieved by figure skater Kamila Valieva since the positive doping test should be annulled. In their opinion, the International Skating Union (ISU) should apply Rule 353, under which competitors initially ranked lower than the disqualified competitor would be promoted.
On January 30, the ISU decided to redistribute the Olympic team tournament medals due to the disqualification and cancellation of Valieva’s results. The Russian team (Mark Kondratyuk, Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov) moved from first to third place, gold went to the USA, silver to Japan. Fourth place remains with Canada.
On January 29, CAS suspended Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The period of suspension is counted from December 25, 2021, all her results for this period are canceled. The discovery of traces of the banned drug trimetazidine in the figure skater’s sample from December 2021 became known after the end of the team tournament at the Beijing Games.
