One of the reinforcements that Emelec has for the 2024 season is Argentine midfielder Cristian Erbes, remembered for his goals in Boca Juniors, the club where he started his career.
Erbes, 34, revealed he knows a lot about the Guayaquil club, particularly from talks he had with former strikers Marcos Mondaini, Luis Miguel Escalada (both retired) and Lucas Viatri, who all came from Xeneize’s youth team.
“I know how big this club is, they always played in the Copa Libertadores, I didn’t have the chance to face them, I did face Barcelona SC against Boca Juniors. I also know a lot about Emelec because of (Luis) Pichu Escalada, Marcos Mondaini, (Lucas) Viatri, friends who are here and we talked about the club,” he said.
“Liga de Quito, Emelec, Barcelona SC, are teams we already know and are always complicated, Ecuadorian football is growing and bringing in foreign players who give it experience and quality, I hope we can contribute to the growth of the Pro League,” he added in an interview with the radio KCHFM.

In this context, Erbes referred to the Astillero Classic, which in its first edition in 2024 will take place on the date of the 10th Pro League, April 28, when the club’s anniversary is also commemorated.
“I know the importance of classics, here, in Argentina and anywhere, we have to win and we have a chance to do it at home, it’s the anniversary and I hope we are good on that day and we can take three points to celebrate all together”, correct.
“I hope that this year we will be able to achieve the main goal (to be champion), that they will always be as they (fans) were, that we will leave everything on the field,” he concluded. (D)
