Wiener saw a conspiracy in Valieva’s punishment

Irina Viner called the disqualification of figure skater Kamila Valieva expected

President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner commented on the disqualification of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Wiener saw a conspiracy in the punishment of the athlete and called the decision expected. “I said that after rhythmic gymnastics there would be figure skating. And so it happened!” – she said.

Earlier on January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. According to the court, Valieva could not prove that she did not take doping intentionally. Thus, the athlete will be deprived of gold for winning the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing as part of the Russian team.

The doping scandal surrounding Valieva unfolded at the 2022 Olympic Games. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
