The head of the UAF Shevchenko opposed the return of Russian youths to tournaments

President of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andrei Shevchenko assessed the possible return of Russian youths to tournaments. His words are quoted by Sky Sports.

Shevchenko spoke out against the decision being considered by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). “We need more pressure on Russia. “I am categorically against allowing Russian athletes to compete at the international level,” the head of the UAF emphasized.

On January 24, UEFA President Aleksandar Čeferin announced his desire to lift the suspension from the Russian youth national teams. “There is no need to punish children for something that is not their fault,” he noted.

Last September, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youths to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. After this, some countries, including Ukraine and England, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams. As a result, no decision on admission was made.

On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and UEFA suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international tournaments.
