Russian divers withdraw from 2024 Olympics due to IOC discrimination
The President of the Russian Diving Federation, Stanislav Druzhinin, reported on his Telegram channel that athletes are refusing to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Druzhinin said that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Aquatics Federation (World Aquatics) set discriminatory conditions that contradict the sporting principles of the Olympic movement. In his opinion, Russian jumpers cannot participate in the Olympic Games in a neutral status. The head of the federation called the decision final.
On September 4, 2023, the World Aquatics bureau allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. Athletes will only be able to take part in events where the time or result is determined by the performance of one swimmer. It is noted that a maximum of one athlete from Russia per discipline will be allowed to compete.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
