The Court of Arbitration for Sport will make a decision on Valieva’s doping case on January 29
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will render a verdict in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva on January 29. The date of announcement of the decision became known to USA Today journalist Christine Brennan, which she reported on the social network. X.
Hearings in Valieva’s case were held at CAS in two stages: from September 26 to 28 and from November 9 to 10, 2023. During the event, four parties spoke: the skater herself, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the International Skating Union (ISU) and the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).
In January, the RUSADA disciplinary committee, which is a body independent from the main organization, informed WADA of Valieva’s innocence. At the same time, the skater was deprived of gold at the 2022 Russian Championship. Later, the ISU and WADA filed appeals with CAS, which called for the athlete to be disqualified and her results annulled.
At the 2022 Olympic Games, Valieva won gold in the team competition, but the Russian team was not awarded due to the doping scandal involving her. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021. At the same time, CAS allowed her to participate in the individual tournament, where she took fourth place.
