Canadian police began collecting data in the case of rape at the 2003 World Cup of Hockey

Police in Halifax, Canada continued to investigate an alleged rape that occurred at the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championship. This was reported by CityNews Halifax with reference to a law enforcement representative.

Constable John MacLeod said there is no statute of limitations in this case and they are ready to provide any assistance they can. It is noted that the police have now begun interviewing witnesses and collecting data.

In July 2022, Canada’s Minister of Sports Pascale Saint-Onge initiated an investigation into the country’s Hockey Federation (Hockey Canada) in connection with the scandal surrounding former Canadian youth team players who were accused of rape. She demanded assurance that public funds were not used in the out-of-court settlement to cover up the story.

The National Hockey League said it will conduct an internal investigation into eight players in connection with allegations of sexual assault on May 27. It was noted that a 24-year-old woman filed a lawsuit.
