Swimmer Minakov said he is not ready to receive neutral status for the sake of the Olympics
Three-time world champion, Russian swimmer Andrei Minakov refused to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games (OI). His comment is quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the athlete, in the matter of admission to the Olympics, it is not so much qualifying starts that are decisive, but rather obtaining neutral status. “Under current conditions, I am not ready to do this,” he said.
Earlier, two more Russian swimmers announced their refusal to compete at the Games in a neutral status. This decision was made by two-time Olympic champion Evgeny Rylov and two-time Olympic medalist Kliment Kolesnikov.
On December 8 last year, the International Olympic Committee announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Games as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not get to Paris.
