Athletic falls 1-0 against Valencia and ends its streak of 11 games without losing in LaLiga

Athletic Club lost against Valencia 1-0 the match corresponding to the 21st day of LaLiga EA Sports which was played on Saturday, January 20 at Mestalla. In this way, the red and whites put end to their streak of 11 consecutive games without losing in league competition.
The match started at a very high pace, although both teams had a hard time generating clear scoring chances. The first warning was given by the local team through a shot by Fran Pérez that went wide. Athletic immediately reacted, but Nico Williams’ shot was stopped by goalkeeper Mamardashvili. Then, in the 14th minute, Sergi Canós left the field injured and Yaremchuk came in to replace him.
The first clear scoring opportunity was created by Athletic: Nico Williams entered the area after a good play and his shot went into the hands of Mamardashvili. Already in the final stretch of the first half, Valencia pressed, but the red and whites remained solid in defense and the match went into the break without goals (0-0).

After conceding the goal, Athletic launched the attack. Unai Gómez had the equalizing goal in his boots, but Mamardashvili prevented the Bermean player from scoring. The red and white team continued trying, although it was not possible.
Valencia was solid in defensive tasks, held the one-goal lead and took the three points (1-0).
