Head of the Lithuanian Figure Skating Federation Jasutis: there are many Soviet relics in the ISU

The head of the Lithuanian Figure Skating Federation, Vytautas Jasutis, spoke about his attitude towards the International Skating Union (ISU). His words are quoted by Sports.ru.

Jasutis said that the country organized a professional European Championship, but the ISU interfered with them with its numerous “Soviet” remnants. “It seems like we grew up in the USSR, but I haven’t seen as much Soviet stuff as I see at ISU anywhere,” he said.

The European Championships took place from January 10 to 14 in Kaunas. 24 skaters who were born in Russia and changed their sports citizenship took part in the competition. Representing Georgia, former Russian figure skater Anastasia Gubanova won silver in women’s singles skating.

On March 1, 2022, the ISU banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters do not take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments.
