Russian Konstantin Maradishvili said he wants to play for the Georgian national team
Nizhny Novgorod midfielder and former Russian youth team player Konstantin Maradishvili announced his desire to play for the Georgian national team. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
The footballer emphasized that back in September he received a passport as a citizen of Georgia. “For now, the issue of playing for the national team is being decided by the Georgian Football Federation. An application to FIFA has been submitted. Now I’m waiting. The federation says that while the qualifying matches are ongoing, a certain amount of time is needed,” Maradishvili said.
The player also explained what influenced his decision. “I’m growing up, I’m slowly rethinking everything, so I made this decision. I want to play for the Georgian national team! All my relatives on my father’s side are Georgians,” Maradishvili said.
23-year-old Maradishvili was born in Moscow and is a graduate of the capital’s CSKA. He did not play for the Russian national team.
