The ROC warned fencers who fled from Russia to the USA

The head of the ROC Pozdnyakov said that Bida fencers are used in the USA

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, on the Rossiya 24 TV channel, warned Russian fencers Sergei and Violetta Bida who fled to the United States.

Pozdnyakov said that athletes are used in the West, since these fencers would not be able to become famous for their athletic results. “They are promoting the image of a classic dissident, a dissident from sports. But life will put everything in its place,” said the head of the ROC.

On January 12, it became known about the fencers’ desire to obtain US citizenship. It was noted that Sergei Bida intends to qualify for the national team and go to the 2024 Olympic Games.

On December 26, 2023, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs put the Bida fencers on the wanted list. They face up to ten years in prison under Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service”). At the time of his departure, Sergei Bida was listed in Dynamo Moscow and had the rank of ensign of the Russian Guard. His wife was previously a serviceman of the Ministry of Defense in the capital’s CSKA.
