Bure appreciated the resumption of career by 40-year-old Kovalchuk

Pavel Bure said that at Ilya Kovalchuk’s age it’s fun to play hockey

Olympic Games (OG) medalist in the Russian national hockey team Pavel Bure assessed the resumption of his career by 40-year-old Olympic champion Ilya Kovalchuk. His words are quoted by Match TV.

“Cool. It’s fun to play hockey at that age. I rarely watch Spartak games, but I know that Ilya scores. It’s hard to play at that age, but he also scores. That shows what a good player he is,” Bure said.

The ex-player found it difficult to answer the question of what benefit Kovalchuk brings to Spartak. “We need to ask the management and coach Alexei Zhamnov what he sees in this. You don’t just take a player, but you take him for some reason,” Bure added.

Kovalchuk’s return to Spartak was announced on December 5, 2023. The striker signed a contract with the club until the end of the season. In seven matches of the KHL regular season, the forward scored three goals and made one assist.
