The NHL called on the IIHF to resolve the issue of allowing Israeli teams to participate in tournaments
The National Hockey League (NHL) appreciated the decision of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) to exclude Israel from the tournament. The statement is available on the league’s website.
The NHL expressed concern about the exclusion of Israeli national teams from the competition. “We call on the IIHF to take all necessary steps to resolve the issue as quickly as possible so that Israeli national teams are not unfairly excluded from participating in future competitions for which they are eligible and qualified,” the league stressed.
On January 12, the IIHF temporarily suspended Israeli teams from competition. The organization explained the decision due to security reasons.
On March 22, 2023, the IIHF Council extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarus national teams from tournaments. The organization also stated that the return of teams to the world stage is unsafe.
