Former SKA player Gailik said that Ilya Kovalchuk does not correspond to the KHL level
Former SKA player, bronze medalist of the USSR championship Yuri Gailik appreciated the performance of Spartak forward Ilya Kovalchuk in the current season of the Continental Hockey League (KHL). His words are quoted by RB Sport.
Gailik reproached Kovalchuk for not meeting the KHL level. “I can only say one thing: don’t take other people’s places. If you can’t maintain the level that is now in the KHL, it’s better to finish,” he said.
Kovalchuk’s return to Spartak was announced on December 5. The striker signed a contract with the club until the end of the season. On January 12, he scored his 400th point in the KHL.
Kovalchuk played in the National Hockey League for several clubs for more than ten years. The forward’s last team was Omsk Avangard, with whom he won the Gagarin Cup. The athlete suspended his career after the 2020/2021 season.
