Spain and Portugal fall in the same group of the League of Nations

UEFA held the draw for the League of Nations this Thursday, and Spain and Portugal were in the same bracket for the next edition, scheduled for 2022. In Group 2, the two teams are accompanied by Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

Winner of the first edition of this continental selection tournament (2019), the Portuguese team will meet the current vice-champions of this competition (2021).

The first group stage games are scheduled for June 2022 and will serve as preparation for the 2022 World Cup, played in Qatar from November to December.

The leaders of each bracket qualify for a semi-final and then a decision, with the two phases played in a single venue in June 2023.

France, who will defend the title next year after winning last October, will have Denmark, Croatia and Austria as opponents in Group 1.

In 3, called “group of death”, are Italy, Germany, England and Hungary, putting the English and Italians, finalists of the last Euro Cup, face to face again. On the occasion, Italy won on penalties, after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

In addition, in this key, the Germans will have a chance of rematch against the English team, responsible for the German elimination in the round of 16 of the Euro Cup.

Group 4 is made up of Poland, Wales, Belgium and the Netherlands, and these last two teams have not faced each other in official competitions since the 1998 World Cup, played in France.
