IIHF bans Israel from competition due to safety concerns

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has imposed sanctions against the Israeli team. This is reported on the organization’s website.

Israeli teams are temporarily suspended from competition. The IIHF explained the decision on safety grounds. It is noted that the verdict was made after discussion with the participating countries and hosts of the tournaments.

In April, the Israeli team was supposed to compete at the World Championships in the second division in Group A. Also, the country’s teams were supposed to take part in the Women’s World Championship of the third division in Group B and the World Championship for players under 18 years of age in Group B of the second division.

On October 7, the Israel Defense Forces reported that Palestinian radicals from the Gaza Strip fired rockets into Israel. In response, the army launched a military operation in Gaza. Israel’s military-political cabinet announced the country’s transition to a state of war.
