The mythical journey is not interrupted. At 11:30 p.m. the teams will leave from the Malecón Simón Bolívar.
Three clubs will try to end the hegemony that the Naval Sports Association (ADN) maintains when the 82nd edition of the traditional row regatta between Guayaquil and Posorja begins today.
This test, which began in 1940, has never been interrupted, although it had to be carried out the previous April (on Good Friday). The coronavirus pandemic meant that in 2020 the journey will be delayed and will be completed in December, as now. The departure will be today, at 11:30 p.m., from the Malecón Simón Bolívar, at the height of La Noria.
The ADN teams, current champion, along with Regatas Posorja, Infantería de Marina and Cocodrilo Remo Club, will compete with their yolas in the regatta, a competition whose organizers (Federación Deportiva del Guayas) insist that they will not stop giving continuity and much less, they claim, they will allow it to disappear.
Until the 2019 edition, participation was in different modalities, but with the pandemic the teams were reduced and only the main category remained, which is that of four rowers and a helmsman.
“The pandemic caused the teams to have casualties and also the resulting crisis forced them not to continue and stop training. We want the tradition to continue ”, said one of the rowers who compete annually in the classic rowing tournament.
It is expected that in April 2022 the regatta to Posorja will be held again on the usual date, on Good Friday. (D)
