FIFA bans Overmars from football for sending indecent photos to women
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has punished former Dutch national team player Marc Overmars for sending indecent photographs to women. NRC reports this.
Overmars was suspended from all football activities. “Following a request from the Royal Netherlands Football Association, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed sanctions on Overmars that will apply worldwide,” the statement said. He will have to vacate his position as Antwerp’s sporting director.
At the beginning of 2022, Overmars resigned as sporting director of Ajax. The reason was that he sent pictures of his genitals to club employees without their consent. In November 2023, he was suspended from football activities in the Netherlands.
As a player for the Dutch national team, Overmars twice won bronze medal at the European Championships. As part of Ajax, he became a three-time champion of the Netherlands and winner of the Champions League, and as part of London’s Arsenal, he became a champion and winner of the FA Cup.
