With 23 points, 11 of them in the final five minutes, the center Jan Vesely led Barça’s comeback this Friday against a combative Baskonia (89-85)who led by eleven points at the beginning of the last quarter (62-73, min.33).
Despite the defeat, Baskonia stood up to the end, guided in attack by Markus Howard (twenty-one).
Barça started energetically in defense, which allowed them to take their first advantages of the match. If the first act ended with a choral exchange of baskets (24-23), the Barça team took advantage of Howard’s break at the beginning of the second round to open the gap thanks to defense, rebounding and offensive fluidity, under the direction of Laprovittola and with an intractable Hernangómez in the paint (34-25, min. fifteen).
When Baskonia was at its thickest, Sedekerskis and Moneke kept the deficit below double digits, a margin with which they reached the break (47-42).
The Vitoria team returned more intense from the locker room and soon came back through penetrations and counterattacks.
The Catalan team entered the last quarter in tow (62-73, min.33), without answers to the talent of Howard and Miller-McIntyre in one-on-one, and the verticality of Moneke.
Behind the tie at 78 in the 36th minuteVesely, with eight consecutive points, completed Barça’s comeback (84-82, min.38).
Baskonia had one last attack with 11 seconds left on the clock. Moneke crashed his triple attempt onto the board and Vesely, after capturing the rebound, made it 89-85.
