Russian figure skater Yanchenkov said he is not considering changing citizenship
Russian figure skater Matvey Yanchenkov, performing in pairs with Ekaterina Chikmareva, spoke about a possible change of sports citizenship. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
According to the athlete, he is happy with everything in his homeland and does not consider such a scenario. “Moreover, the level there in most countries is not the highest. As for pair skating specifically. The best place to develop in our form is in Russia,” he said.
At the last national championship, Yanchenkov and Chikmareva won bronze medals in pair skating. They also won the Junior Grand Prix stages.
On December 26, the acting president of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, Anton Sikharulidze, spoke about the change of citizenship by athletes. According to him, the position on this issue will be toughened.
