FSR director Tkachev condemned Pole Duda for refusing to shake hands with Khismatullin at the World Cup
Executive Director of the Russian Chess Federation (RFC) Alexander Tkachev responded to the refusal of Polish grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda to shake hands with Russian Denis Khismatullin at the World Rapid Chess Championship. His comment is quoted by Match TV.
Tkachev condemned Duda’s behavior, calling him a poorly educated young man. “It’s a pity that the best chess player in Poland behaves like this,” he said.
Tkachev also said that Khismatullin could have filed a protest, after which Duda would most likely have been fined. “I’ve known Denis for many years; he prefers to prove he’s right on the chessboard, rather than in ethics commissions,” he concluded.
Earlier it became known that Khismatullin extended his hand to Duda before the start of the meeting, but he gestured that he would not respond to the greeting. The match ended in a draw.
