Team Canada for the first time in five years was left without medals at the Youth World Championships

Team Canada lost to the national team of the Czech Republic in the quarterfinal match of the World Youth Championship (WCH), which takes place in Sweden. The results are available on the website of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

The meeting took place in Gothenburg and ended with a score of 3:2 in favor of the Czechs. For the winners, forward Jakub Štanzl (double) and defenseman Tomasz Cybulka scored goals. Matthew Wood and Jake Furlong scored for the Canadian team.

The Canadian team is the current world champion and for the first time in five years was left without tournament medals. The last time the team lost to the Finns in the quarterfinals of the tournament was in 2019.

Teams from Russia and Belarus have been suspended from all international competitions since February 2022. In March 2023, the IIHF extended the suspension for the 2023/24 season.
