RFU Secretary General Mitrofanov: UEFA quickly agreed on a match between Russia and Serbia
General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov spoke about negotiations with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) regarding a friendly match with the Serbian team. His words are quoted by Bookmakers Rating.
Mitrofanov said that UEFA quickly agreed on the RFU’s application. “We sent it on the morning of December 20, and before the start of the RFU executive committee it was approved for us,” he shared the details.
The match between the national teams of Russia and Serbia will take place on March 21 in Moscow. The RFU and the Football Union of Serbia emphasized that they had received permission to hold the meeting from UEFA.
On February 28, 2022, FIFA and UEFA excluded Russian national teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team lost the opportunity to compete for access to the final part of the 2022 World Cup and does not participate in the Euro 2024 qualifications.
