Vladislav Tretyak said that hockey player Alexander Ovechkin could become a deputy

The head of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF), Vladislav Tretyak, assessed the likelihood of a political career for Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin. His words are quoted by Match TV.

Tretyak said that Ovechkin may want to become a deputy in order to continue his interesting life. “Politics is very hard work. You always live on the edge of love and hate,” he emphasized.

The State Duma of the eighth convocation includes a number of titled domestic athletes. Among them are former biathletes Anton Shipulin and Sergei Chepikov, hockey players Vyacheslav Fetisov and Tretyak, figure skater Irina Rodnina, speed skater Svetlana Zhurova and chess player Anatoly Karpov.

Ovechkin has been playing for the Capitals since 2005. Together with the club, he won the Stanley Cup in 2018. The hockey player ranks second in the list of the best snipers in the NHL, having scored 829 goals.
