Luc Tardif announced four conditions for the return of Russians to international tournaments
President of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif announced four conditions for the return of Russians to international tournaments. Sport Express reports this.
For the return of the Russian Hockey Federation (RHF), four points must be fulfilled. The FHR needs to finally accept the IIHF rules on international transfers, not allow a hockey player to play while he is suspended, agree to the universal concept of “contract”, and also accept the rules and bylaws of the IIHF.
These points are related to the case of CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov, who signed a contract with the army club on July 1. The National Hockey League expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, as it violated the goalkeeper’s current agreement with Philadelphia, concluded in May 2022. The goalkeeper tried to fly to the United States, but he was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service. After this, Fedotov was sent to serve in the Russian Navy, from where he was demobilized a year later.
On August 14, the IIHF disqualified the goalkeeper for four months, but the Kontinental Hockey League still allowed him to play matches under its auspices. Then Tardif noted that in this case the organization is forced to open a disciplinary case against CSKA.
Teams from Russia and Belarus have been suspended from all international competitions since February 2022. In March 2023, the IIHF extended the suspension for the 2023/24 season.
