Toronto placed Samsonov on waivers after four straight losses
Russian goaltender of the Toronto Maple Leafs Ilya Samsonov has been placed on waivers. About this on social network X wrote insider Elliott Friedman.
Toronto suffered four defeats in a row in the last matches with the participation of the Russian goalkeeper. Before Samsonov was placed on waivers, he allowed six goals against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Within 24 hours of being placed in the National Hockey League (NHL) waiver draft, the athlete can be picked up by any club, otherwise he will go to the Toronto farm club.
This season, Samsonov played 15 games in the NHL regular season, conceding an average of 3.94 goals per game and saving 86.2 percent of shots.
Samsonov has been playing in the NHL since 2019. Until 2022, he played for the Washington Capitals, but the team did not offer him a new contract, after which the Russian moved to Toronto. In April 2023, Samsonov became one of the Russian hockey players who refused to take part in his club’s action in support of LGBT people (The international public movement LGBT is recognized as an extremist organization and is banned in Russia).
