43 Russian cyclists were given neutral status, four were rejected
The International Cycling Union (UCI) has assigned neutral status to 43 Russian athletes. TASS reports this.
Four Russian cyclists were denied neutral status due to involvement in security forces or support of a special military operation. These are Alexey Obydennov, Anastasia Voinova, Maria Novolodskaya and Danila Burlakov. The ban on them will remain in effect as long as the special UCI rules regarding Russia and Belarus remain in place.
In May, it became known about the admission of Russians to UCI tournaments in a neutral status. It was noted that athletes will be able to take part in the World Cup, Nations Cup and World Championships individually – without any associations with Russia, the national federation or the national Olympic committee.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition.
