Nepomniachtchi wished FIDE transparency after punishment for fixing a match at the World Cup
Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi addressed the International Chess Federation (FIDE) on social network X after the end of the World Blitz Championship.
“Let 2024 bring FIDE everything that it lacks: transparency, honesty, clear rules, uniform standards, wise judges, attentive organizers, recognizable sponsors!” – wished Nepomniachtchi, who took fifth place in the tournament.
Thus, the Russian criticized FIDE after the scandal involving his participation at the World Cup. In the match of the 11th round, Nepomniachtchi and his compatriot Daniil Dubov tied, ending the confrontation on the 13th move. However, the judge considered the fight to be contractual and decided to punish the players by awarding them zero points instead of the required 0.5.
The World Rapid and Blitz Championship was held in Samarkand from December 26 to 30. The total prize fund of the tournament was 600 thousand dollars.
