Russian chess player Valentina Gunina won the World Women’s Blitz Championship. This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.
The tournament takes place in Uzbekistan. The Russian woman started the competition with seven wins in a row and was able to maintain her lead. In total, she has 14 points scored in 17 rounds. Gunina became the world blitz champion for the second time in her career; she won her first title in 2012.
Earlier, another Russian chess player Anastasia Bodnaruk won the World Rapid Championship, which was also held in Uzbekistan. The athlete beat India’s Humpy Koneru in a tiebreaker.
In November, the International Chess Federation extended permission for Russian and Belarusian chess players to compete under the organization’s flag. It applies to those who already act in a neutral status and will last until January 1, 2025.
