Olympic tennis champion Vesnina decided to resume her career at 37 years old
Olympic tennis champion Elena Vesnina decided to resume her career. She spoke about this on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned).
“Hey 2024, ready for my return? Let’s do that. See you guys on the courts next year,” the 37-year-old tennis player captioned a video showing snippets of her training.
Vesnina won the 2016 Olympic Games in doubles with Ekaterina Makarova. At the Tokyo Olympics, the Russian woman, together with Aslan Karatsev, lost to compatriots Andrei Rublev and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the mixed doubles final.
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) did not suspend the Russians from the competition. Athletes continue to compete at tournaments in a neutral status.
