The head coach of the women’s volleyball club “Uralochka” Nikolai Karpol left his post. This was reported in the team’s Telegram channel.
He was replaced by his grandson, Mikhail Karpol. Previously, the specialist headed the Uralochka youth team, was the senior coach of the main team, and also served as head coach in the 2021/2022 season.
85-year-old Nikolai Karpol has headed Uralochka since 1969. Under his leadership, the team became an 11-time champion of the USSR and a 14-time winner of the Russian championship.
Nikolai Karpol also coached the USSR and Russian national teams. Together with the Soviet team, he became a two-time Olympic champion and world champion, and led the Russian team to two Olympic silver medals. Karpol is the most titled volleyball coach in the world.
