President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov answered a question about the future of Zenit striker Artem Dziuba in the Russian national team. His words are quoted by “RB-Sport”.
“I do not agree that the coach has put an end to it. At one of the last press conferences [Валерий] Karpin said that he could challenge Artyom to the play-offs, “Dyukov said. The head of the RFU added that Dziuba needs to play well for Zenit, and then Karpin will be able to make a decision about calling the player.
On November 10, Karpin said that he had put an end to the question of not calling Dziuba into the team. He stressed that he does not intend to answer any more questions on this topic.
In September, Dziuba himself refused to be called up to the national team for the October qualifying matches for the 2022 World Cup. The forward motivated this by the fact that he was not in optimal shape for this. The 33-year-old has played 24 games for the blue-white-blue in all competitions this season, scoring ten goals and making six assists.
