Grandfather of wanted fencer Grishin: Sergei Bida left for the USA for surgery
Two-time Olympic medalist in water polo Boris Grishin, grandfather of wanted fencer Sergei Bida, explained his grandson’s departure to the United States. His words are quoted by RT.
“Sergei is a very patriotic person, and he would not take any steps just like that,” Grishin emphasized. He explained that the grandson left the country in order to carry out the operation. According to the relative, Bida provided certificates to the Russian Guard.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has put on the wanted list Russian fencers Sergei and Violetta Bida, who left for the United States. They are defendants under Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service”). Athletes face up to ten years in prison.
Sergei and Violetta Bida were active officers in the Russian army when they voluntarily left for the United States in 2023 to move to California. He was a member of the Moscow Dynamo and had the rank of ensign of the Russian Guard, and she was an active service member of the Ministry of Defense in the capital’s CSKA.
