An eight-year-old Russian defeated a 25-year-old chess player at the World Championship

Eight-year-old chess player Shogjiev defeated 25-year-old Christiansen at the World Rapid Championship

Eight-year-old chess player from Russia Roman Shogjiev defeated grandmaster from Norway Johan-Sebastian Christiansen in the second match of the World Rapid and Blitz Championship in Samarkand. The results are available on the tournament website.

The Russian played with white pieces, the game ended on the 71st move. Shogdzhiev’s opponent is 25 years old and ranks 146th in the FIDE rankings.

A day earlier, Shogjiev defeated the representative of Uzbekistan, Jahongir Vakhidov, on the 46th move of the game. The Russian’s first opponent is 28 years old.

In total, Shogjiev won two victories, played two games in a draw and suffered three defeats, scoring a total of three points in seven games. He is ranked 130th in the standings entering the second day of competition. In October of this year, the athlete won the world championship among chess players under the age of eight.

The World Rapid and Blitz Championship is taking place in Samarkand from December 26 to 30. The total prize fund of the tournament is $600 thousand.
