Chesnokov called Ukrainian Tsurenko’s call to Russians to boycott the Games a provocation
1995 Davis Cup finalist Andrei Chesnokov appreciated the call of Ukrainian tennis player Lesya Tsurenko to the Russians to boycott the 2024 Olympic Games. He is quoted by TASS.
Chesnokov called the athlete’s words a provocation and nonsense. “In general, any statements by Tsurenko should be divided in two. She constantly lies to someone,” he added.
Previously, Tsurenko felt that Russians should boycott the tournament as a sign of solidarity with their compatriots who were not admitted. “I support that Ukraine will send the strongest team in history to the Olympics, and Russians and Belarusians will watch the competition on TV,” she noted.
On December 8, the International Olympic Committee announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. Six Russians and five Belarusians have currently qualified for the Games. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine and have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not get to Paris. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
