Speed skater Kulizhnikov performed in torn overalls at the Russian Championships
World record holder in speed skating Pavel Kulizhnikov said that he competed without a whole jumpsuit at a distance of 1000 meters at the Russian Championships in Irkutsk. His words are quoted by Match TV.
The reason was that the athlete tore his last overalls the day before the competition. “As a result, the overalls are unbuttoned, with a jacket on top. It doesn’t tighten anything,” he said. Kulizhnikov added that Russian championship medals are not important to him.
Kulizhnikov was left without a medal in this distance at the Russian Championships in Irkutsk. Ruslan Murashov won.
On October 7, Kulizhnikov spoke about prize money at domestic tournaments. The athlete said that he receives very little compared to what he could earn on the international stage.
The speed skater is a three-time world champion in sprint all-around. He also has five victories at world championships at individual distances.
