Portuguese Tomas Amaral became the new sports director of Spartak Moscow
Portuguese Tomas Amaral has been appointed the new sports director of Spartak Moscow. The red-whites announced this on their website.
He will start working at Spartak on January 1, 2024. Paul Ashworth, who previously held this post, will become the technical director of the Muscovites.
Amaral came to the Russian team from Benfica Lisbon, where he held the position of senior scout. Before that, he worked as an assistant coach at the Portuguese Farense and Braga, and as a scout at the Spanish Granada, Eibar and Valladolid.
“I believe that success is achieved primarily not by individual work, but by collective work. And I evaluate players not only by lines on their resume, age or height: for me, their current football qualities and potential are more important,” said Amaral.
This season, Spartak scored 30 points in 18 rounds of the Russian Premier League (RPL). The team is in fifth place in the standings.
